Town Centre Accessibility

We were pleased to have Ian Buchanan, Equality and Access Manager of Disability Equality Scotland, recently visit our Panel and share with us the presentation he had given to the Scottish Parliament on the Equality Act in relation to accessibility of town and city centres.

Ian illustrated his talk by showing various slides of towns and cities where there is clearly non-compliance with the legal duties conferred by the Equality Act, which sadly we all recognise, and can give more examples of throughout Stirling, e.g., insufficient disabled parking, poor public transport, incorrect street furniture, planters and seating, low non-contrasted bollards, lack of dropped kerbs, inadequate signage, separate disabled entrances as in Stirling Sheriff Court, etc., etc.
