Puzzled by The Engine Shed's latest award win

The Engine Shed in Stirling is an exceptionally interesting attraction but it has some serious unresolved issues concerning access and inclusion.

Despite this, it has won a third award - and once again, it appears that the difficulties the facility presents to disabled people have been overlooked.

The latest award is from Scottish Thistle Awards, where it has been named the best visitor attraction in Central Fife and Tayside. Read more here.

This does call into question what inclusive criteria the Scottish Tourism Award judges use when assessing a facility. It appears that the 20 percent of the population who are disabled, and who will struggle to access or be able to use and enjoy the facility, have not been considered.

The facility in Forthside Way of Stirling is run by Historic Environment Scotland (HES). SAAP is engaged in on-going discussion with them about accessible parking and various other access concerns.
